Counselling & Psychotherapy Services
Sometimes you may need someone to talk to who is out of your family or social circle. Someone who won't judge you or who won't be put out if you talk about wanting to explore changing the way you live your life, your relationship/s or your outlook. This is where counselling can help. I listen to people's concerns, worries and dissatisfaction with life with the aim of working with them to find a new way to think, live or interact. Using an Integrative framework, I provide a non-judgemental, empathetic and understanding approach to counselling, where clients feel comfortable to express their issues in a safe and caring environment. I lend the opportunity for clients to feel free to be themselves, feeling both heard and listened to. Clients can confidentially discuss past and present difficulties and gain awareness and understanding about unwanted thoughts, feelings and behaviours to bring about change. The objective of working together will be to help you overcome your symptoms and recover.

Anxiety
Anxiety is a feeling of stress, panic or fear that can affect your everyday life physically and psychologically.
Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. For example, you may feel worried and anxious about sitting an exam, or having a medical test or job interview.
During times like these, feeling anxious can be perfectly normal.
But some people find it hard to control their worries. Their feelings of anxiety are more constant and can often affect their daily lives.
Bereavement
Bereavement refers to the state of having experienced the loss of a loved one. It most often refers to the time after a loss when emotions are at their most profound. This time is marked by intense grief and tremendous sorrow.
The term is sometimes used synonymously with grief and mourning. How people experience this time of grief can vary from one person to the next.
While bereavement is usually associated with death, it can also occur after other significant losses The end of an important relationship or a major change in a person's health, for example, can also lead to feelings of bereavement.
Burnout
Burnout is a state of physical and emotional exhaustion. It can occur when you experience long-term stress in your job, or when you have worked in a physically or emotionally draining role for a long time.
Common signs of burnout:
-
Feeling tired or drained most of the time
-
Feeling helpless, trapped and/or defeated
-
Feeling detached/alone in the world
-
Having a cynical/negative outlook
-
Self-doubt
-
Procrastinating and taking longer to get things done
-
Feeling overwhelmed
Coping Skills
Coping skills are the thoughts and behaviours you engage in that help you manage distressing situations. They can be divided into emotion-focused and problem-focused.
Emotion focused coping skills help you feel better, but they don’t change your situation. They help you manage your reaction to the situation. Problem focused skills are best for situations that you have some control over because they can help you solve the problem or minimize it.
Depression
Depression is a low mood that can last a long time or keep returning, affecting your everyday life. Depression is more than simply feeling unhappy or fed up for a few days. Most people go through periods of feeling down, but when you're depressed you feel persistently sad for weeks or months, rather than just a few days. Some people think depression is trivial and not a genuine health condition. They're wrong – it is a real illness with real symptoms. Depression is not a sign of weakness or something you can "snap out of" by "pulling yourself together".
The good news is that with the right treatment and support, most people with depression can make a full recovery.
Hopelessness
Hopelessness is a powerful emotion that often contributes to a dark or low mood and may adversely affect the way one perceives the self, other individuals, personal circumstances, and even the world. Often hopelessness can have a significant influence on human behaviour, as it may reflect an individual’s negative view of the future.
O.C.D
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has two main parts: obsessions and compulsions. If you experience OCD, it's likely that your obsessions and compulsions will have a big impact on how you live your life: (OCD) features a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviours (compulsions). These obsessions and compulsions interfere with daily activities and cause significant distress.
Trauma/PTSD
Trauma is not reserved to military personnel; trauma also happens in families and within relationships. Developmental trauma, that is trauma experienced in our childhoods often impacts us later in life. Research shows that trauma impacts our ability to manage emotions, reducing the capacity to manage relationships and enjoy life. Perhaps something has happened recently that has triggered old feelings. Therapy can help support you as you work through your feelings at a pace that is manageable. I am comfortable hearing about, and working with distressing histories and difficult experiences; helping you feel supported without worrying your story is too much.
